Chevron Kit Application Guide
Chevron Kit Application Guide
Frequently Asked Questions
How should I prepare the vehicle before applying a chevron kit?
Thoroughly clean the application area using warm soapy water, then dry the surface completely. The guide also recommends wiping the area with a suitable cleaner, such as methylated spirit, to remove any remaining grease or contamination.
Can I apply a self-adhesive chevron kit using water?
No. The application guide specifically states that self-adhesive vehicle chevron kits should not be applied wet. The vehicle surface must be clean and dry before installation begins.
How should I position the chevron sections before sticking them down?
Place each section in its intended position and temporarily secure it using tabs of masking tape or a similar low-tack tape. This allows you to check the alignment before removing the backing paper.
What is the hinge method for applying smaller chevron sections?
For a smaller section with a straight edge, apply a continuous strip of masking tape along one edge. This creates a hinge, allowing the section to be lifted while the backing paper is removed without losing its position.
What tool should I use to apply the chevrons?
A squeegee or a similar application tool should be used to press the chevron onto the vehicle. Apply firm, even pressure in a sideways motion and gradually work across the section until it is fully adhered.
How should larger or shaped chevron sections be applied?
Larger or more complex sections should be fitted using the centre hinge method. Place a strip of masking tape across the middle of the section, then apply one half before removing the tape and applying the remaining half.
Should I remove all the backing paper at once?
For smaller sections, the backing paper can be removed after the section has been hinged into position. For larger sections, it is better to remove and cut away the backing in stages so each half can be applied separately.
How can I prevent creases or poor alignment during application?
Position and tape every section before committing to the adhesive. Apply the material gradually with a squeegee rather than pressing down the whole section at once, maintaining steady pressure as you work across it.
What should I do if air bubbles appear under the chevron?
Small bubbles can be carefully pricked using a pin or the tip of a sharp knife. The trapped air can then be pressed out and the material smoothed down against the vehicle surface.
Should I remove the masking tape immediately after installation?
Once both halves or the full chevron section have been applied, remove the temporary masking tape tabs. Check that all edges and sections are firmly pressed down before moving on to the next part of the kit.
